A massive sinkhole opened on a road as the water and sand surge hit a metro construction site in northern China.
The incident was captured on video in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, on July 1.
Construction crews encountered an unexpected surge of water and sand while excavating. Despite immediate emergency measures, the road surface began to sink.
By the early hours of July 1, monitoring detected further subsidence, prompting traffic police to impose temporary controls on the affected section at 5:50 a.m. Around 8:00 a.m., part of the road finally gave way, creating a large sinkhole.
In the aftermath, emergency repairs began on the collapse site, with crews filling the hole with concrete and monitoring further subsidence. An in-depth investigation into the cause of the accident is also underway.
