5China confirmed plans to speed up construction of a national network to charge electric cars so as to reach its goal of seeing five million electric cars hit the roads by 2020.

While China has shown considerable progress when it comes to building its car charging infrastructure, it still lacks the needed coordination, National Energy Administration deputy head Zheng Zhajie said.

The State Council issued "Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Construction" (hereinafter referred to as "Opinions") Sunday, to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

China aims to equip at least one in ten public car park facilities for electric car charging. All newly built residential communities should be equipped with charging stations. There should be at least one charging station for every 2,000 electric cars. The State Council will soon issue guidance for the infrastructure roll-out, according to the “Opinions”.

The Opinions note that local governments are required to release special plans for charging infrastructure and formulate the construction of charging infrastructure and its operational management by the end of March 2016.

Apart from improving the charging facilities, the Chinese government also sees the importance of an online platform in supporting green vehicles as a way to curb the nation's high levels of pollution.
