North China's port city of Tianjin will host an international conference on the petroleum and chemical industry in September to discuss opportunities and challenges in the sector.

 

Attendees will discuss global market changes, international strategies for Asia and other topics at the 2012 China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference (CPCIC), slated for Sept. 10 to 12 in concurrence with the 2012 Summer Davos summit, according to a news brief.

 

Organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) and the Tianjin municipal government, the conference will gather representatives of government departments, organizations and enterprises from the petrochemical and chemical industry from both home and abroad.

 

Established in 1992, the annual CPCIC was previously held in Beijing and Shanghai before moving to Tianjin in 2011.

 

Zhao Jungui, vice chairman of CPCIF, said China's petroleum and chemical industry has maintained fast growth over the past three decades.

 

"However, the sector is now facing dramatic changes in the global market, such as higher environmental requirements and redundant capacity," Zhao said.

 

"We must look for new ways for the industry to develop," Zhao said.

 

"Repositioning Chinese petrochemical products amid sluggish global demand will be a focal point for the attendees," said Pang Xiongying, president of the Chinese branch of U.S.-based consultancy group Chemical Market Associates Inc.
