Rose prices in Tianjin's major flower markets soared to two times their original price before the Qixi Festival, representing Chinese Valentine's Day.
Â
Tianjin florists saw sales surge as the Qixi Festival came closer. Prices were raised from 3 yuan per stem to 5 yuan on the day before the festival and up to 10 yuan per stem during the festival.
Â
It still can't be compared to Valentine's Day. The price for a stem of red rose stood at 18 to 20 yuan on February 14th, 2012. Many florists said their sales volume was about half of the 2012 Valentine's Day.

Chocolates, favored by many young people as gifts to their lovers, were put on promotion in major supermarkets in Tianjin.
