010A conference that aims to help Hong Kong youth understand more about the Chinese mainland, to encourage them to start their own businesses, and to work in the mainland, took place in Tianjin in July.

The group, comprised of more than 170 top university students and outstanding young entrepreneurs from both the mainland and Hong Kong, took part in a business and cultural conference and trip.

Jointly sponsored by the China Young Leaders Foundation and Tianjin Overseas Friendship Association, the four-day conference responded to the government's call to develop entrepreneurship and mass innovation.

011The conference also broke ground by formalizing an agreement of strategic cooperation in people talented in science and technology. The Hong Kong Youth Elite Entrepreneurial Center in Tianjin was officially established to further strengthen exchanges between the two cities.

"The rapid development of Tianjin is spectacular. By communicating with each other, entrepreneurs in both cities can create better ideas and values. The trip helped us to establish new teams and innovative projects," said Xu Kaidi, a representative of the entrepreneurs from Hong Kong.

As one of the foundation's efforts to develop a bridge between youth from Tianjin and Hong Kong, the conference held various forms of communication activities such as seminars, forums and salons.

Li Tsz-shu, a master's student at Peking University, now acts as vice-general manager and acting deputy director of Tianjin Wuqing's economic development zone and he led the group trip this time. Li is the first Hong Kong resident to take up an important post in local government on the mainland.

012Leung Chun-ying, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, acts as the honorary advisor to the group.

During the conference, a mock entrepreneurial competition was held. Students from diverse backgrounds were divided into 10 groups, and each group came up with an idea of a startup company based on their field research in the city. They showcased the ideas with intensive roadshows, a final round of presentations with detailed business plans, and creative video.

Wang Ping, deputy director of Tianjin Overseas Friendship Association, said: "As an innovative city with fast growth, Tianjin is a place full of opportunities for entrepreneurship. I hope that more young people from Hong Kong can grasp the chances to start a business or work in Tianjin."
