JINAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- One policeman was dead and another still buried in a collapsed well in east China's Shandong Province, where an explosion killed four and injured four on Saturday, a local official said Monday.

The policeman was found dead at 10:07 p.m. Sunday, more than seven hours after he was buried under the collapsed well, said Liu Zhenzhou, an official with the publicity department of the Qingzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

Rescuers were still searching for his colleague, Liu said.

The two policemen were buried after the motor-pumped well in Chendian village in Qingzhou city, Shandong, collapsed at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, as an investigation of the explosion was underway, Liu said.

The well exploded at 3 p.m. Saturday, killing three on the scene and injuring five, including one who died later in the hospital.

Initial investigation suggested that explosives left in the well caused the accident when villagers were clearing the well.
