A beggar in Jinan, Shandong province has begun using a QR code to ask passersby for money. The man was reported to be begging near Wangfuchizi, a tourist site in Jinan, with a QR code placed prominently by his side.

The beggar normally doesn't "work" on rainy days, but he always appears when the weather is good. He also reportedly suffers from mental illness, and the QR code was printed for him by his relatives. However, many people still find the unusual innovation to be objectionable.

Residents living around the site said that begging for money through QR codes has become increasingly prevalent among the local beggars, and some even use point-of-sale devices.
