040China's e-commerce giant Alibaba has inked a strategic cooperation agreement with Argentina's government to assist with the export of Argentinean wines and fresh food to China.

During a meeting between Argentinean President Mauricio Macri and Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma, Ma announced that his Chinese e-commerce platform would become the official sales platform of Argentinean wines.

041"With Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, Argentine SMEs will now be marketed on one of the biggest electronic sales platforms," wrote Macri on his official Twitter account.

The deal authorizes Alibaba's Tmall to act as the official sales platform of Argentinean products in China. Argentina is the largest wine producer in South America and the fifth largest in the world. Currently, the seven most popular Argentinean brands on Tmall are wines, followed by fresh foods such as shrimp and crabs. Argentinean shrimp were especially popular on Tmall over the past Spring Festival.

Estimates by Vinexpo show that China is on track to become the second largest wine consumer in the world by 2020, with its retail revenue reaching $2.1 billion.
