016The philosophy of Confucius (551-479BC), known as Confucianism, has had a lasting impact on Chinese culture, emphasising morality, justice and sincerity. From 19-25 April 2019, Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin brings a feast of Confucian culture and cuisine to the Tianjin riverside.

孔府菜1Performances:
Join us for ancient ritual performances from Qufu, Confucius’ hometown in Shandong Province. The Confucian Coming-of-Age Ceremony dates back thousands of years in China and involved the granting of special headwear to young people marking their transition to the social and family responsibilities of adulthood. Ancient music and dance performances as well as intangible cultural heritage activities, including script carving, inscription rubbings, and The Analects of Confucius calligraphy, will also be on display in the hotel lobby throughout the festival for visitors to interact with.

Kong Family Cuisine:
Shang Palace will be presenting a taste of Qufu’s Kong Family cuisine, which is based on the Shandong regional ‘Lu’ cuisine with an imperial influence and a touch of Huaiyang cuisine from southern China. Kong Family cuisine features interesting and creative presentations and ingredients skillfully combined through centuries of input from chefs to fully express the four important elements in the art of Chinese cooking – colour, aroma, flavour and texture.
