flight 01HK Airport will allow passengers arriving from mainland to transit during the period 15 August to 15 October.

It did not give a reason for the resumption and declined to comment when contacted by Cirium. The change would help Chinese students needing to fly out of China to resume their studies abroad.

Traffic at Hong Kong International Airport in June fell 99.1% to 59,000 passengers from a year ago

Passengers must have a layover of less than 24h to be eligible. They must also confirm in advance that they are able to enter their final destination.

The new temporary measures for passengers arriving from the mainland follow the “gradual and co-ordinated” resumption of transit services at HKIA that started on 1 June.

In order to protect against Covid-19, all passengers, including departing, arriving and transit travellers, as well as airport staff, are required to wear masks at all times at HKIA, the airport says. In addition, all transfer/transit and arriving passengers must undergo body-temperature screening upon arrival.

Passengers are also given stickers at transfer points for identification purposes and they are requested to go directly to the boarding gates for their connecting flights “immediately”. Designated seating areas at each boarding gate are set up for transit passengers, along with designated dining areas.
