Leading global TV manufacture Samsung Electronics Co. will close its only television (TV) production site in China as part of its efforts to restructure its global manufacturing sites to improve efficiency amid increasing competition.
Samsung Electronics has decided to shut down its sole TV factory in China, which is in Tianjin, by the end of November. About 300 workers will be affected by the closure.
An unnamed official from Samsung Electronics said the latest factory closure was part of the company’s ongoing efforts to restructure its global manufacturing sites to boost efficiency amid increasing competition across the board ranging from smartphone production to TV production.
In 2018, Samsung Electronics closed down its smartphone manufacturing factory in Tianjin and another one in Huizhou in southeast Guangdong Province last year. In July, the Korean tech giant decided to halt operation of its last personal computer (PC) production facility in Suzhou, stepping up efforts to increase business efficiency in China.
After the closure, Samsung Electronics will operate only three manufacturing sites in China – two semiconductor plants, each, in Suzhou and Xi’an and a home appliance factory in Suzhou.
