YONGFU, Guangxi, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-seven primary school children were injured Friday after an electric three-wheel vehicle overturned in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local authorities said.
The children aged five to 12 were crowded on a 3-square-meter tray on the back of the vehicle when it rolled into a ditch in Yongfu County at 7 a.m., said a statement from the county government.
Driver Zhou Lianhong, 55, who was also injured, said he took the children from Tangliao Village to a school about 10 km away every morning.
One of the children was severely injured and might have suffered a cerebal hemorrhage, said a doctor at Yongfu People's Hospital, where they are being treated.
Villagers say such vehicles overloaded with passengers are common in Yongfu.
