China's Ministry of Water Resources on Wednesday activated a level-IV emergency response to flooding and drought in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
From Thursday to Friday, heavy rains will lash parts of the region, causing the water levels of rivers to rise sharply, the ministry said.
Multiple rivers are expected to see their water levels exceed warning lines, according to the ministry.
It will dispatch two teams to Beijing and Hebei to aid flood prevention work.
China has a four-tier flood control emergency response system, with level I being the most severe response.

预计7月20日至21日，海河流域将有一次强降雨过程，受其影响，海河流域潮白河、北运河、永定河山峡区间、大清河系拒马河及唐河等河流将出现涨水过程，北运河及暴雨区内部分中小河流可能发生超警以上洪水。
依据《水利部水旱灾害防御应急响应工作规程》，水利部决定于7月19日18时针对北京、天津、河北省（直辖市）启动洪水防御Ⅳ级应急响应，派出2个工作组赴北京、河北协助做好防御工作，并向相关省级水利部门和水利部海河水利委员会发出通知，要求密切监视天气变化，加强雨情水情预测预报、会商研判和应急值守，做好水工程调度、中小河流洪水防御、山洪灾害防御等工作，确保人民群众生命财产安全。
华北多地或迎今年来最强降雨
21日起华北地区迎今年来最强降雨，京津冀等局地或现大暴雨。据市气象部门预报，7月20日夜间至21日白天我市阴有雷阵雨，21日傍晚至夜间中雨，局地大到暴雨，伴有雷电和局地6～8级短时大风；22日上午小雨，下午降雨逐渐结束。主要降雨时段为21日傍晚至夜间。受降雨影响，21日最高气温将回落至28℃左右，高温缓解。
