The Astor Hotel Tianjin – A Fine Dinner Occasion

1863 the Dining Room at the Astor Hotel Tianjin was the stage for a sumptuous dinner. Taken from the old books of the Astor’s records, this traditional dinner consisted of dishes that were once served to the most influential people of the 20th century like Puyi or Hoover and they are once again being recreated and served at 1863 the Dining Room. All dishes were carefully updated to better fit our palate but to still carry the identity of the original recipes the state-of-the-art historical set-menu’s that are offered all come with a brief introduction of the menu’s history and who it was served to. For instance, the O’Hara’s menu named after one of the former shareholders of the Hotel.

A fusion of the traditional and contemporary cuisines presented itself in every dish, from the shrimp cocktail to the marvelous berries’ dessert. The menu featured three beautiful dishes, offering traditional English cuisine, bested by Chef David Woodford. Each dish was paired with delicate vintage white and red wines. The staff helpful, gentle and well trained brought to the guests a feeling of a traditional aristocrat Astor as in 1863, when the hotel was first inaugurated.
