Tianjin’s economy has great potential and continues to develop well. In 2011, Tianjin’s total retail sales of consumer goods increased 18.7%. Operating revenue of the restaurant industry reached CNY 49.5 billion, increasing 27.1% year-on-year. Both the increasing speed, and the developing potential, of the restaurant industry in Tianjin are outstanding. During Spring Festival, many restaurants in Tianjin are packed with people. Wedding banquets are a major revenue source for the restaurant industry. Many people have to make the reservation for some well known restaurants more than one year before the wedding. The price of each table for the wedding rises every year. Tianjin’s rural citizens traditionally get married in the morning while Tianjin’s urban citizens get married in the afternoon. Therefore, many big restaurants usually hold wedding banquets the whole day. Meanwhile, having a birthday party, gathering with friends, or having business dinners at a restaurant have become more popular in recent years. During Qingming festival this year, many people went to restaurants to have dinner after they visited their ancestors’ graves. The dining turnover from Qingming festival doubled from the previous month.
Tianjin will continue to make great efforts to introduce more famous dining enterprises. First of all, Tianjin will create policies and provide a special fund to support the introduction of new dining enterprises. Secondly, Tianjin will also actively organize going abroad to attract investment and bring more chain restaurants to Tianjin.
