China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ) made an announcement on August 23, 2009 that Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC) and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd (TFTM) have decided to start recalling some of the Camry, Yaris , VIOS and Corolla cars from August 25.

According to the announcement, Guangzhou Toyota decided to recall 384,736 Camry sedans produced during May 15, 2006 and December 31, 2008, as well as 22,767 Yaris sedans made between May 15, 2008 and December 31, 2008. A total of 407,503 vehicles will be recalled.

Tianjin FAW Toyota decided to recall 35,523 VIOS sedans made between February 18, 2008 and December 25, 2008. 245,288 Corolla sedans produced between May 17, 2007 and December 25, 2008 will also be recalled. In other words, Tianjin FAW Toyota will recall a total of 280,811 vehicles.

It is understood that this recall involves a problem caused by the same component supplier. Because too much grease has been smeared on the electric window master switch control module on the driver's side in the manufacturing process, this may lead to an internal short circuit, causing feverish switch, melting loss, clamping stagnation during operation, problems in winding up window, and in very rare cases this may lead to melting damage of the door trim panel.

The recall involves a total of 688,314 vehicles. Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will replace defective components in the recalled vehicles for free in order to eliminate potential safety problems.

Guangzhou Toyota and Tianjin FAW Toyota will get in touch with consumers within the range through authorized dealers to arrange repair work for free.
