China is preparing to build its fifth research station in Antarctica, according to website of the Ministry of Land and Resources.Â

Thirteen members of China's 31st Antarctic scientific expedition and 10 tons of supplies have been transported by the helicopter KA32 to Inexpressible Island for scientific investigation.

The team is carrying out surveys and mapping in preparation for China's fifth research station, according to the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geo-information.

China's polar exploration will enter a period of fast development. The country plans to build a new icebreaker mainly for field research in 2016, according to the State Oceanic Administration.

China has built four Antarctic research bases, namely the Great Wall, Zhongshan, Kunlun and Taishan stations. Â
