Since the introduction of China Energy Label (CEL) on March 1 2005, more than 1.8 billion family appliances, nearly 10 billion lighting products, about 200 million sets of office equipment and over 10 million items of commercial equipment with carrying the CEL label have been sold, saving 442 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity.

The CEL system, jointly introduced by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA), is a measure of energy saving and quality control. To date, the CEL covers 5 groups of 33 kinds of energy-consuming products, and 98 percent of consumers know the label.
