BT 201909 340X458BT 201909 QR PDFWe interacted this month with Long Yingzhi, site manager of AAA Dornier Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., to know more about his experience working with foreign companies in China across different sectors, but mainly automotive and aeronautic. He is managing the daily operation of AAA Tianjin team by working on the Final Assembly Line of AIRBUS Tianjin, his company’s main customer.

China’s trade balance showed positive results in July. The US-dollar denominated exports increased by 3.3% in July from the same a year ago, and imports, on the other hand, decreased by 5.6% over a period of one year. Customs data showed that the trade surplus was $45.06 billion. With the US, China’s trade surplus stood at $27.97 billion in July, lower than the previous month’s $29.92 billion. In the first seven months of 2019, China’s trade surplus with the U.S. has totalled $168.5 billion.

China is the world’s biggest source of greenhouse gases, and has pledged to bring emissions to a peak by “around 2030”. Still a long way and hard work, but during this year China has taken several decisions to reduce the dependency of polluted sources. One of the most important is the Ulanqab Wind Power Base, which is the largest onshore series of wind farms in the world, with a capacity of delivering 18.9TWh a year to power the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. You can read an intensive report about this topic in our Feature Story.

Construction in the capital’s east Tongzhou is full speed ahead to complete the largest Universal Studios outlet in Asia. Universal Studios Beijing will open in the spring of 2021 and will be housed in a 400-hectares Universal Beijing Resort which will house among others, the Universal CityWalk retail, dining and entertainment complex and the first ever Universal-themed resort hotel along with the first Nuo-branded resort hotel of Beijing Tourism Group.

The park will be twice bigger than Universal Studios Japan and five times larger than Universal Studios Singapore. Several themed zones highlight the greatest of Universal Studios-owned assets along with exciting flagship attractions. While specific details on the park’s entertainment blueprint are under tight secrecy, we can assume that the park will feature highly popular choices, but more massive in terms of scale.

NEWS - Tianjin Finance

Written by Helen Thursday, 01 August 2019 18:15

BT 201908 cover 340X458BT 201908 QR PDFLast month we have visited one of the most emblematic hotels in the planet earth. China World Hotel, Beijing has hosted some of the most important dignitaries and business leaders in the world. The hotel is also known as the ‘second state guest house’ for visiting state leaders, and since its opening in 1990, it is the preferred venue for many flagship conferences and international business events. Recently they have just officially unveiled the new and upgraded Horizon Club rooms and suites, and we have the privilege to talk with Stephan Kapek, who has been appointed Area Manager of Shangri-La Group and General Manager of China World Hotel, Beijing, and his main focus is to Develop Leadership in Hospitality.

Main economic growth numbers released on June are at historically low levels, yet, many other indicators appear to be healthy. The country reported the weakest economic growth in 27 years (since 1992). The Chinese government still has much room to manoeuvre and remain on track to achieve its ambitious growth goals. However, the global economic environment appears to be challenging, which can make the government’s task harder. Asian economies are usually the first to take a hit when tensions happen, as they are densely connected with the Chinese economy. Analysts expect that the economy will weaken further in the second half. A major factor behind this is the weakening international demand. Despite this, many economists still expect an annual growth rate of over 6 percentage points. The government is expected to increase its intervention.

Lately, when I meet people that I know from long time ago, I get the weird feeling that we don’t need to say anything to know our thoughts. It is common to us, the situation that we are passing, but at the same time, it is different. No new words to say, but we know that it is coming the time of uncertainty that normally comes after few years, and especially when western countries are closer to a crisis, that I guess will happen again soon.

I know many factories are closed or in the process of closing. People are not optimistic, but they don’t feel afraid, as they are used to change and find their way. They feel protected in some way from the measures that the government is taking or will take in the near future.

BT 201907 340X458BT 201907 QR PDFWe have the privilege this month to interview Mr Volker Palm, CEO of WAGO Electronic (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., company founded in 1997 at Wuqing Development Area (UDA), Tianjin. During our conversation with Volker, German by birth, but Chinese by heart, who has lived and worked for the past 25 years in China, we discover the success of WAGO and always a positive mindset of its leader in Tianjin.

The key to success is to be always one step ahead of the game in any decision you make. This is one of WAGO main principles and the reason to continuously keep abreast of industry trends.

The Chinese economy is still growing, albeit that growth is slower in some areas, such as the industrial sector. The Chinese economy remains resilient in the face of geopolitical shocks, such as the intensifying trade war. The government is prepared to stimulate the economy, and many enterprises are showing flexibility by planning to relocate their manufacturing plants to avert the tariffs. Despite expectations of slower economic growth in the upcoming quarters, pessimism is not fully warranted yet.

Last meeting of G20 has reached the decision to give some tile to the trade talk. The decision of the US to ban the collaboration, technology, and services from foreign adversaries is believed to be a warning to all Android phone companies. The challenge rises as Huawei will need to outwit and introduce to the public the alternative solution for the award-winning Google services. There is no press release yet on how Huawei will resolve this Android barrier and hurdles for their future device to appease the Google users. It will mean creating its own App Store that you can find in Huawei phones, as AppGallery. At the moment, global users are waiting for Huawei’s “Plan B.”

Rafael Nadal is a true fighter, and despite the frequent injuries, he was able to pull out stunning victories, which are inspirational to many youngsters and entrepreneurs. Sometimes he took long leave from the circuits, but those vacations he used to garner his strengths to outsmart his opponents. His life is an inspirational story for many business leaders.

BT 201906 340X458BT 201906 QR PDFChina’s economy looked to have had its growth slow sharply in April, before new US trade war tariffs took effect, with both industrial production and retail sales growth showing significant declines. The big picture is that China’s economy is losing the momentum it gained in the first quarter. China’s stimulus measures may be starting to wear off, and the central government had engaged in multiple rounds of rate cuts for banks, encouraging the flow of lending into the economy.

From the macro economy point of view, China has witnessed a rebound, as indicated by the recently released numbers. Retail sales, industrial production, fixed asset investments, and trade balance saw positive developments. Some economists believe that the government’s efforts to stimulate the economy are showing some effects. The progress made in the trade talks with United States has contributed to the improvement.

Michael Hart, who has spent more than 20 years in China in the commercial real estate industry and over a decade of that time in Tianjin, provides us with an excellent explanation how to benchmark our Real Estate Cost. Don’t miss it!
