02Starwood hotels in Tianjin went dark to shine the light on climate change with Earth Hour 2016. The five hotels including The St. Regis Tianjin, The Astor Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Tianjin, The Westin Tianjin, Sheraton Tianjin Hotel and Sheraton Tianjin Binhai Hotel joined millions around the world in turning off lights for one hour on March 19th from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and action.

The five Starwood Tianjin hotels co-hosted the Earth Hour themed Yoga event at the River Lounge of The St. Regis Tianjin to encourage every citizen to follow the low-carbon lifestyle and protect our environment. More than one hundred guests participated in this meaningful activity. With the guidance of an expert yoga teacher, every guest relaxed in yoga poses and enjoyed a free yoga mat for further use. What'€™s more, sustainable and healthy snacks were provided for guests by the five cluster hotels to strengthen spleen and replenish vital energy.

The St. Regis Tianjin participated by turning off exterior signage and all lighting. All non-essential interior lighting were off and candlelight was observed in public areas such as restaurants and bars; guests were educated about the tribute to Mother Earth and were encouraged to "unplug" during this symbolic hour. At the same time, the culinary team specially prepared a sustainable menu including numerous organic and healthy ingredients to encourage everyone to protect the earth and follow an eco-friendly way of life.

"It'€™s a privilege for us to support such a powerful movement with a multitude of simple gestures,"€ said General Manager Mr. Martin L. Leclerc of The St. Regis Tianjin. "Earth Hour reflects a philosophy we practice all year-round and we all must do our part as together, we can make a big difference. Climate change affects everyone and it also has an impact on the continued success of our business."

Last year, nearly 600 Starwood properties around the world participated. In addition to conserving energy, many properties hosted events and activities that engaged associates and guests. Some projects and programming included themed menus designed to highlight local and organic foods and Earth Hour inspired cocktails; special performances, tailored concerts, and displays of traditional entertainment; and distinctive campaigns devised to support individual community initiatives and conservation efforts.

The theme of the 2016 Earth Hour celebration focuses on climate change following a successful United Nation's COP21 conference in Paris. The annual global environmental awareness event was created and instituted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007 to emphasize the threat of global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions.
