Shangri-la Hotel, Tianjin participated in Earth Hour, a global Worldwide Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) initiative to fight against climate change, on Saturday, 19th March 2016 for supporting public welfare and demonstrating its commitment to protecting the environment.

This year, Earth Hour focused on "Consume Less, Enjoy More" and aimed to encourage individuals to practice a sustainable lifestyle and develop an eco-friendly consuming habit. To support the actions of the local community, Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin launched a series of activities to "Go Green" as much as we possibly can, including initiating green menus, a night run, lighting dimming and salsa dancing.

The "Green" Menu
During the Earth Hour, "Green" snacks prepared by responsibly sourced ingredients and minimal fuel consumption cooking will be served. Shangri-la Hotel, Tianjin is committed to promoting greater traceability and transparency of where our ingredients come from by closely working with sustainable suppliers. Cafe Yun sources the finest quality of products with the best possible ingredients. On that day, a logo of "60+" made of vegetables was presented to promote a green and sustainable lifestyle at Cafe Yun and also an encore for our hotel'€™s "Rooted in Nature" one-year anniversary. Special Rooted in Nature events and promotions highlight sustainable sources of produce, fish and meat found on the hotels' menus year-round and celebrate the purveyors who responsibly steward the land and sea to provide Shangri-La chefs with the best possible ingredients.

Night Run along Haihe River
At 7:45 p. m., a troop of joggers started from the hotel, passing Tianjin Station, Century Clock, Jin Wan Plaza, and back to the hotel through Baoding Bridge. The night run was held to encourage the low carbon way to commute and promote a healthy habit to keep fit while reserving energy.

Lighting Dimming
Lights of Shangri-la Hotel Tianjin, was dimmed between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in the lobby area and around the hotel exterior. What's more, eco-friendly LED candles stand in the "60+" shape in the middle of the hotel lobby to raise awareness of the importance of energy saving.

Salsa Dancing under the Dim Lights
Furthermore, guests were encouraged to participate by turning off the lights in their guestrooms as a commitment to environmental protection. After dimming the lights, all guests were welcomed to join the Salsa Party under the dim lights and enjoy the meaningful one-hour darkness.
