Tianjin's gross domestic product (GDP) saw an increase of ten percent and reached 1.6 trillion yuan (USD251.3 billion) last year, according to Huang Xingguo, an NPC deputy and mayor of Tianjin.

Last year, Tianjin steadily grew its economy and made every effort to implement reform and innovation. The city firmly seized the opportunity of the integrated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province and has put its focus on pushing forward investment in trade and daily life services.

Upgrading both the economy and the city, the economic society of Tianjin has been developed continuously and healthily.

The economic increase rate has stayed steady; the job market has been positive; and the price of commodities has remained within an acceptable range.

Fixed-asset investment reached 1.2 trillion yuan last year, an increase of 15.1 percent. The total number of newly-added job positions has reached 488,000. And the consumer price index (CPI) has grown 1.9 percent.

In addition, the city's economic structure has been optimized. Efficiency has been promoted, and the environment has been improved.

The weight of the service industry has been increased to take up 49.3 percent of the overall economy of the city. Fiscal income has increased 15 percent. The income of urban and rural residents has grown 8.7 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively. The energy consumption of every ten thousands production value has been decreased more than 3.5 percent.

Tianjin welcomes a great opportunity to develop its economy relying on the integrated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province; the construction of the Tianjin Free Trade Zone (FTZ); the establishment of the national innovative demonstration area; the development and opening-up of the Binhai New Area; and the implementation of the major strategy of "One Belt One Road" (Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road).
