The "Hitech" 3rd International Non-professional Piano Competition in Tianjin began to enrol amateur pianists around the world to participate in its competition in August. Held every three years, it is one of the most prestigious contests in China. The second competition, in 2012, attracted more than 300 participants from 26 countries.

Zhou Guangren, a renowned Chinese pianist who also set up the Zhou Guangren Piano Art Centre in China, says the country has a large number of piano lovers, many of whom have displayed a high level of skill.

To help attract overseas participants, organizers have also enrolled families in Tianjin to volunteer their services and homes during the competition. Enrolment will be open until 1 June.Â
