Construction of the National Marine Museum located in Tianjin began on 31 March. The museum is expected to open by the year 2017.

 

The museum is a major cultural program of the State Council and the National Development and Reform Commission. Located in the Sino-Singaporean Economic City in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, the museum has investments of more than two billion CNY (322.4 million USD) and has a total area of 15 hectares (150,000 square meters).

 

The museum is next to a marine cultural park with a total area of around one square kilometre. The structural area is 80,000 square meters.

 

The National Marine Museum is built by the Eighth Bureau of China State Construction and has received fire and construction permits.

 

Construction is to be completed by the end of 2016 and a planned opening in May 2017.
