Tianjin will launch a series of major water conservation projects by the end of the year.

 

At Huanghuadian in Wuqing District, Tianjin, the grasslands are green, water is clean, and sky is blue. Fish and birds can be seen everywhere. "The area used to have two stinky waste water pools. Sewage from local plants drained off in the lakes. Residents and office workers did not dare to open their windows because of the smell from the water," said a local resident.

 

Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau started the sewage disposal and water recovery in April of 2014. All plants have been moved except a pharmaceutical enterprise, whose drainage system has been upgraded and reformed and for "zero emission" of pollutants.

 

Sewage disposal was followed by ecological renovation through degrading bacteria, artificial aeration, and nutrients. With all these efforts, pollutants have been eliminated and the environment has been purified. Thanks to completed management, the water quality has reached the standard for parks, greeneries, and municipal usage.

 

A total of six environmental management projects will be completed by the end of the year, including the elimination of plants with low capability and tiered pricing on residential water usage, which will be completed by the end of the year. A system of drainage registrations will be completed by the end of September.

 

In addition, sewage disposal based on districts and sea farming management will be launched by the end of the year.

 

Moreover, the integrated water pollution prevention and management mechanisms of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region concerning the aquatic environment monitoring network, integrated law enforcement system on aquatic environmental management, and water pollution emergency management policies will be established by the end of the year.
