An exhibition on Japanese Ukiyoe wood block paining was unveiled at the Western Art Museum in Tianjin on June 5. It is a part of the project of promoting global art and culture and enriching residents' daily lives.

More than 70 fine Ukiyoe wood block paintings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries are on exhibit. All of the exhibits are collected by private collectors around the world. Many of the exhibits were published outside Japan and with great art value.

Ukiyoe wood block painting originated in the Edo period (1603-1868). The exhibits cover the two major branches of the art ¨C portraits and landscapes.

The exhibition covers representative works in preliminary, medium, and terminal phases and shows the beauty of kabuki, geisha, landscape, and Chinese characters.

Ray, an American artist launched presentations of his private collections. He also showed the ways to create wood block paintings and answered questions from visitors.
