The city of Tianjin's statistics bureau reports 4.35 million visitors during this year's week-long Spring Festival holiday and tourist revenues of 3.75 billion yuan ($599.6 million), for a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase.
The number of tourists was 1.53 million, up 9.7 percent, contributing 879 million yuan to tourist spending, an increase of 4.5 percent, clearly a rapid rise in both visitors and revenues.
For the locals there was a variety of amusements, with one-day trips and road trips dominating. There were also many tourists from the Beijing-Hebei province area, as well as from southern parts of China and overseas.
Popular trips in the city often covered folk culture and folk events, with statistics showing its ancient culture street attracting more than 800,000 tourists for the week. Theme parks were another hot item with some recently opened projects and scenic spots giving tourism holiday boost.
Other tourists looked for ways to stay healthy while relaxing, so outdoor activities, such as hot springs and skiing trips were popular new choices at major ski resorts where there were an International Snow Tourism Festival, Snow Splashing Festival, and Snow Carnival.
And, as ecological tourism has joined recreational, the tropical botanical garden held a rain forest music festival and tulip festival with a Dutch theme, and other ecological parks and ranches pulling in a great number of tourists.
Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei also held Spring Festival greeting events to increase tourism in the area.Â
