I'm a Chinese college student studying English as a major right now. And I do think the English education in China can be counted as a failure. Many teachers can't speak fluent English, especially those in non-urban areas. The students are not encouraged to actively use the language, and much of what the teacher does is presenting the structural analysis of sentences, teaching the kids different grammar rules.Â
