Your employees will not stay with you unless they are happy. Every organization invests in their employees and expects them to remain in the organization for a long time. For that matter, the HR department of an organization works hard to ensure that the employees are happy and content with work conditions and their jobs. Therefore, it is extremely important to keep employees happy and to motivate and retain them.

Now the question arises, how would you know whether your employees are happy or not? There might be employees who come in every morning with a smile and greet everyone yet they are not satisfied with their jobs. On the other hand, there are employees who seem dissatisfied and demotivated but still would hold reservations and would not tell the truth. Often employees show different work habits when they are unhappy. Usually the direct managers are able to identify such changes. There are obvious changes in work performance and behavior. Therefore, if you observe such changes in your employees then it might be a sign that they are unhappy.

2. Changes in Attendance

Unhappy employees are usually late comers or they tend to leave a bit early or even take unnecessary leave from work if they get a chance. If you have such employees in your organization, try to figure out why they are not punctual. It could be a sign that your employees are unhappy or dissatisfied.

3. Changes in Communication

Employees who are happy usually communicate efficiently with co-workers and customers. They are prompt in responding to people around them. However, those who are unhappy usually communicate less and do not effectively respond to queries or issues occurring in the organization.

4. No Friends!

People who usually do not connect with colleagues at work on a personal level are likely to be the unhappy employees of your company. Organizations strive to create a culture where friendliness prevails and employees interact with each other. If a person is content with the job, his or her relationships at the office might be a reason for him to spend the entire day at work. However, if an employee does not have friends at work, there are rare chances of him being happy and staying with the company for long.

5. Uncooperative Behavior

A happy person is always seen cooperating with everyone around and taking up extra workload positively. On the otherhand, an unhappy employee usually rebels one way or the other, does not take up responsibilities and depends on others to get his or her work done. You might find such employees coming late for a meeting, seminar or training sessions or not even attending any of them.
