15 April 2010. At 16:00 hours key administrators, diplomats, teaching faculty and students gathered at Tianjin Foreign Studies University to have the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Goethe-Sprachlernzentrums New Language Centre in the host location’s university.
The well organized evening was divided into four parts of speeches, special acknowledgements, a tour of the centre and an evening banquet.
The ceremony began with introductions and speeches of VIP guests including German Embassy’s Minister Counselor of Cultural Affairs - Martin Fleischer, Director of German Schools in China - Michael Kahn-Ackermann, General Manager of Jean Mueller Electrical Systems - Uwe Birnbaum and Tianjin Foreign Studies Professor - Xiu Gang.
Speeches were followed by the recognition of excellent students who showed exceptional mastery of German at the middle and high school levels. Students from Tianjin Experimental High School and Chonghua Middle School received certificates of recognition. Corporate partners were also given plaques to show gratitude for support of the cooperative endeavor. The official ceremony concluded by the unveiling of the centre’s trademark logo.
Participants were escorted by Jana Schumann and other event organizers to the new centre located on the second floor of the Foreign Language Testing Centre, Building 3. The Centre is easy to locate with plenty of signage and an elegant, easy to follow layout conducive for language learning.
At 18:00 hours all guests were ushered to an evening banquet at Bavaria Brauhaus with free flowing drinks, appetizers and buffet style courses.
