Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is pleased to announce three new hotels to open in north China in 2013. The projects are in, Tianjin, Qinhuangdao and Tangshan, all of which are important coastal cities on the Bohai Bay with ports serving North China and Northeast Asia.

The Shangri-La hotels will join the group’s portfolio of north China properties in Beijing and Inner Mongolia. With this year’s opening of China World Summit Wing, Beijing, Shangri-La will have eight properties in the region. Developments in the Hebei province, the Tianjin municipality, and an additional hotel in Manzhouli Inner Mongolia, will bring this number to 12 hotels in the region in the next three years.

Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin

Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin will be a landmark within Tianjin’s new downtown Kerry Centre complex, linked to the adjacent Kerry Centre Mall and office buildings.  Located along the Haihe River, the 535-room hotel will reflect Tianjin’s rich cultural heritage and the diverse local architecture of the historic port city and commercial center. The hotel’s Horizon Club lounge and sky lounge will offer panoramic views of the city. Dining options will include an all-day dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a lobby lounge and bar. The hotel’s extensive meetings facilities will include a 21,530 square foot grand ballroom.

Tianjin is bordered by the Bohai Sea to the east and the Hebei province encircles the north, west, and south of the city. Located 70 miles southeast of Beijing, the city is thirty minutes by high speed rail from the capital. In early 20th century, Tianjin was the most commercially developed city in north China and was the home of the first stock exchange in China, which opened in 1921. The city’s port is the most comprehensive and busiest commercial port in north China and operates as a hub of commerce for the region and as a gateway to the capital city of Beijing.
