Schools in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, were suspended on Tuesday to prevent cluster infections. Dalian also required people to hold negative nucleic acid test reports within 24 hours before leaving the city, as it reported 100 new local infections ( including 45 confirmed cases and 55 silent carriers) within 5 days.

Dalian released COVID-19 prevention plans for the whole education system ranging from kindergartens to universities, suspending teaching activities in kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools as well as after-school training institutions.

Dalian also locked down universities and vocational schools. Students living in schools are not allowed to leave while those who live outside schools including elementary and high school students will have online classes.

Officials in Dalian also suspended the operations of all companies in the frozen seafood and food supply chain amid a COVID-19 outbreak. It's not clear how long the suspension will last.

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 47 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday.

Of the new local cases, 21 were reported in Liaoning, 13 in Henan, seven in Heilongjiang, three in Hebei, two in Yunnan and one in Jilin.

Also reported were 15 new imported cases, according to the commission.

No new suspected cases or no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday, said the commission.
