Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, reported 155 confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing to 1117 the total number of local infections in the latest resurgence since December 9.
Currently, the city has one high-risk area for COVID-19 and 58 medium-risk regions.
Authorities in Xi'an have upgraded epidemic control and prevention measures starting Monday, ordering all residents to stay indoors and refrain from gatherings except when taking nucleic acid tests.
The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 156 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday.
Of the new local cases, 155 were reported in Shaanxi, and one in Guangxi, the commission said.
Also reported were 51 new imported cases in 12 provincial-level regions, according to the commission.
