Chinese airlines are preparing to cancel fuel surcharges on flight tickets from January 5th, just two months after reinstating them, to encourage more people to fly during the upcoming week-long Chinese New Year holiday.
The waiving of the fees will save passengers between 10 - 20 RMB per ticket depending on the length of their flight.
As of 13:00 on January 4, 2022, the Qunar platform has received formal notifications from airlines such as Hainan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Kunming Airlines, Guilin Airlines, West Air, Ruili Airlines and other airlines.
The cancellation of the fuel surcharge is expected to reduce the cost of consumers buying tickets for the Spring Festival. For example, the distance between Beijing Capital Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu Airport is 1,697 kilometers, and the cost of each ticket when consumers buy it will be 20 yuan lower than last month.
