Five people were killed after a minivan fell off a cliff into the Jinsha River in Leibo county, Sichuan province, on Friday, China Central Television reported. Another three are injured and are receiving treatment.
A video circulated online showed the minivan rolling over several times on a slope before finally falling into a river.
A hostel operator on the opposite bank of the river told Hubei province-based Jimu News ambulances were sent to the site, as the victims fell out of the vehicle while tumbling down the slope.
A man surnamed Deng told Jimu he is a relative of the victims. Deng said of those who died, four were adults and one was a child, and the three survivors were all children. Two sustained severe injuries and were transported to another hospital.
Deng said the cause of the accident was not known. A government official in Leibo told Jimu an investigation is underway.
