On July 31, the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters issued a notice. According to the flood forecast, the flow of newly built housing hubs in the upper reaches of the Daqing River in the Haihe River Basin increased, and the water level of the Daqing River continued to rise. The Dongdian Flood Storage and Detention Area was activated at 2 am on August 1. Dongdian Flood Storage and Detention Area is located on the north and south banks of the Daqing River at the junction of Hebei Province and Tianjin. It mainly involves Hebei Province, Jinghai District and Xiqing District of our city, with a total area of 379 square kilometers, of which 100 square kilometers are in our city.
According to the opening plan of the flood storage and detention area, the north part of the Daqing River in the Dongdian flood storage and detention area will be activated at 2:00 am on August 1. Arrived in Tianjin around the next day.
Tianjin issued an orange warning for floods at 10 am on Monday. Several rivers in the area were expected to experience significant rises in water level between Monday and Sunday because of floodwaters in upstream river channels. The Jiyun Canal River, Chaobaixin River, Qinglong Bay Jianhe River, Yongding River, Daqing River and others may approach or exceed the warning level, the local water authority said.
In the Yongding River area, the authorities raised the alert level to red and began to transfer local residents to safety areas on Monday afternoon.
Zhang Dongfang, an official from the flood and drought disaster relief office under Tianjin's Bureau of Emergency Management said the city has shifted its flood prevention priority to discharge work, aiming to lower water levels in rivers within its jurisdiction and maximize storage capacity, according to the app for Jinyun, a local outlet.
