Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment & Development Co., Ltd. (SSTEC)'s collaboration with Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (Philips) was brought to greater heights today with the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to test-bed Philips' latest lighting technologies, solutions and equipments in SSTEC's developments. This will be Philips' first test-bedding project in Asia.

Philips will work with SSTEC on four lighting test-bedding projects in the Eco-City, in the Eco-City's Landmark Building and International School project. The test-bedding projects will introduce Philips' meaningful lighting solutions in Green Building and leverage Philips' cutting edge technologies and solutions to improve the energy-efficiency and sustainability in the Tianjin Eco-City. One of the objectives is to enhance office ambience and improve people's health and well-being.

This test-bedding collaboration will enable Philips to introduce cutting-edge and energy-saving lighting solutions in the Eco-City and other parts of China in the near future. This will also pave the way for Philips to establish its R&D presence in the Tianjin Eco-City. Such technological collaborations showcase the Eco-City's position as a natural adoption ground and “living lab” for eco-solutions where companies can conduct last mile commercialisation and R&D for their products and solutions.

Mr. Goh Chye Boon, CEO of SSTEC said: “This collaboration helps the Tianjin Eco-City to identify world-class energy-efficient lighting solutions not just for today, but also going into the future. We are honoured that Philips has chosen the Tianjin Eco-City and Tianijn Binhai New Area (TBNA) as their first location in Asia to test-bed their next-generation energy-efficient lighting products. Philips is the latest in a steady stream of world-class eco companies who have chosen the Tianjin Eco-City as their regional base to reach out to new opportunities in TBNA and Northern China.”

As the leader in the global lighting industry, Philips has been actively promoting the switch to energy-efficient lighting solutions through timely innovations and enhancing the relationship with government and professional institutes. These are in line with the Chinese government's drive to reduce energy consumption and cut carbon emissions. Through this collaborative project, Philips once again strongly advocates its concepts of “sustainable city”---integrating cities, residents and lighting technologies to make people experience different urban lifestyle by applying edge-cutting lighting solutions.

Mr. Lin Liang Qi, the General Manager of Philips (China) said: “With the fast growing urbanization and increasing consumption of cities, promoting green energy-efficiency is mutually beneficial for developing healthy economy of cities and improving the quality of residents' lives. We are happy to further collaborate with SSTEC in this area. We are confident that Philips will make urban spaces brighter and safer and create a healthy and comfortable quality lifestyle for residents with its rich experiences, technologies and lighting solutions.”

Philips and SSTEC will also further collaborate in the forthcoming , 'Tianjin Eco-City Cleantech Focus Forum' on 28 and 29 September 2010, where Philips Asia's Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Frans Greidanus, will be one of the keynote speakers. This event is co-organised with Cleantech Group from the United States. It is one of the world's foremost clean tech forums for delegates from eco-cities around the world to meet, discuss and address the business challenges around scaling and implementing the successful eco-city model. The Cleantech forum will be held in conjunction with the, 'Tianjin Binhai Eco-Expo' to be held from 28 September to 3 October 2010.
