The Ministry of Finance published the decision on its website on Monday, saying that the consumption tax, effective 1 January, 2009, maintains the previous rates -- 0.28 CNY (0.041 USD) per liter for leaded gasoline, 0.20 CNY per liter for unleaded gasoline, naphtha, solvents and lubricants and 0.10 CNY per liter for diesel, jet kerosene and fuel oil. Since the State Council's decision to keep the consumption taxes unchanged, Beijing has said it was studying reforms of the fuel pricing mechanism and the possibility of lowering pump prices and scrapping road tolls.
