Business booms at China's tourist sites during Golden Week

's tourist destinations experienced booming business during the week-long National Day holiday while more tourist arrivals and spending were reported.

The 119 tourist attractions monitored by the country's travel authorities posted a 15.91 percent rise year on year in combined tourist arrivals to more than 22.36 million between Oct. 1 and 7, known as the "Golden Week," an online statement of the National Tourism Administration said Thursday.

Business income from these sites totaled some 1.13 billion yuan (168.8 million U.S. dollars), up 26.71 percent from one year ago, according to the statement.

The statement also said the railways, airlines and roads were bracing for a peak in return trips Thursday, the last day of the holiday, and so far, no large-scale stranding of travelers had been reported.
