TOKYO (Nikkei)--Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. has put on hold for now a plan to open a second department store in the Chinese city of Tianjin, the company said Wednesday.
The firm had planned to open the store in late 2010 or early 2011.
Isetan Mitsukoshi and its prospective local partner failed to agree on details of the plan. A second Tianjin store is still under consideration, the Japanese department store operator said.
According to Isetan Mitsukoshi, the decision to suspend the expansion is unrelated to the Senkaku Islands dispute.
Isetan Mitsukoshi currently operates Isetan department stores in four Chinese cities, including Shanghai and Chengdu. This month, the Chengdu outlet was forced to close temporarily due to an anti-Japan demonstration.
