A GUIDEBOOK outlining good practices on various water management issues has been jointly developed by Singapore and Tianjin for use in the Tianjin Eco-City.
The guidelines in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Water Management Guidebook will be implemented once the Eco-City is fully completed in 2020.
The Eco-City is a joint partnership project by Singapore and China to build an economically thriving, environmentally friendly, socially harmonious and resource-efficient city.
Towards this end, the guidebook collaboration between PUB, Singapore's national water agency, and the Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee (ECAC) offers guidelines on good practices in three areas: water quality and safety; water conservation; and non-conventional water sources utilisation and management.
'Infrastructural developments must be accompanied by a framework of management guidelines to ensure sustainability . . . This would better ensure that the key water performance indicators outlined in the Tianjin Eco-City masterplan can be realised,' said Tan Yok Gin, PUB's assistant chief executive in operations.
Water from taps in Tianjin Eco-City will be of potable standards, and water supply will be diversified to include harnessing of non-traditional sources such as rainwater harvesting from local catchment, desalination and recycled water.
Following the development of the guidebook, PUB will also work with ECAC to organise training for water operators and formulate mechanisms to track performance.
