The Tianjin Eco-City Shimao Project was officially launched with the groundbreaking ceremony that was held on November, 2009. This event was graced by He Lifeng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Director-General of Tianjin Binhai New Area (TBNA) Administrative Committee, and the senior management of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co Ltd (SSTEC) and Keppel Group.

Zhang Yanfa, Vice Chairman of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee expressed his high aspirations for the project. The Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City is a demonstration of the determination of both China and Singapore in tackling global climate changes, strengthening environmental protection and conserving resources and energy. By applying effective and practical green solutions, the aim is to create a resource-conserving and environment-friendly community that will serve as a model of sustainable development for other cities of China. This project is the largest mixed-development project to date in the Tianjin Eco-City. This project will accelerate the pace of the city’s development, and create a vibrant and livable environment for the residents of the Tianjin Eco-City.

Mr Xu Rongmao, Chairman of Shimao Group said: “The Tianjin Eco-City is a key strategic project for Tianjin and has captured the attention of leaders at all levels in the Central Government, the Tianjin Municipal Government as well as the Singapore Government. It is our honor to participate in the development of the Tianjin Eco-City. Shimao has a demonstrated 20-year track record as a high-end real estate developer, developing over 40 projects in more than 30 large and mid-sized cities in China. The Tianjin Eco-City Shimao project is a linchpin in Shimao’s development strategy in areas surrounding Bohai Sea. We have firm belief and strong confidence in this project. Based on the concept of “harmony between construction and environment” for sustainable development, Shimao will utilize its experience and capabilities, and apply the most advanced and innovative eco-construction technologies to develop an environment-friendly modern living area in Tianjin and set new green building standards. ”

“The groundbreaking of this project is an important milestone for the Tianjin Eco-City, SSTEC and Shimao. Shimao, one of the top developers in the region, will be developing the more than 6 sq km’s first phase of Tianjin Eco-City along with other leading developers like Keppel Land, Vantone, Vanke, Mitsui Fudosan and Farglory Group, who share the vision of creating a sustainable eco-living environment. This will enrich the environment for the people who will live, work and play in the Tianjin Eco-City.” said Goh Chye Boon, CEO of SSTEC.

The Tianjin Eco-City Shimao project includes residential and hotel projects respectively with a total investment of more than RMB 10 billion. The residential project is located in the south of the SUA, leading to Zhongjin Road and Dongyi Central Road in the north, with Jiyun River in the south and north respectively, which will be developed in three phases taking up a total construction area of 1.06 million sq m. Building form will include high-rise, medium high rise, multi-storey sand villa. The project will encompass eco and sustainable solutions and technologies that will meet at least the silver award of the Tianjin Eco-City’s Green Building Evaluation Standard (GBES).

Located in the north of Eco-City Service Center and the west of Hanbei Road, the hotel project plans to construct a five-star landscape style hotel, which may furnish more than 300 high-end suites and its main banquet hall has a capacitiy for almost 2,000 guests. The biggest distinctiveness is the modern Chinese garden design. Landscape design with dozens of villas for VIP guests supplemented with independent quadrangles which may be forged into world-class patterns to provide the best leisure and entertainment activities.

Alongside the residential project, a 4000 sq m public exhibition center is also being constructed. It will have showrooms to showcase solutions and technologies for ecology and environmental protection. Constructed with environmental-friendly materials, new energy systems, recycling systems and other high-tech advanced technologies, the center will provide a first-hand experience of future eco lifestyle.

It has taken just two years for the masterplan of the Tianjin Eco-City to take shape and to start becoming a reality. More than 13 km of roads, as well as underground infrastructure and utilities in the SUA will be fully completed by the first quarter of 2010. A critical component of the Tianjin Eco-City’s green transport strategy is the light rail transit (LRT) which is expected to be completed by the end of 2011 and will connect the Eco-City to the rest of TBNA and Tianjin city. Apart from world-class educational and medical services, there will also be a full suite of amenities to serve the residents’ needs. The Tianjin Eco-City will be an adoption ground for large-scale solutions and will be a base for eco-companies to serve Tianjin, Northern China and beyond.
